At the September Katy ISD school board meeting, Eric Duhon unwisely suggested that the Summer 2006 Bond Committee be made the “Bond Review” Committee.

His flippant attempt at being a smart aleck seems unbefitting a serious elected official.

What possible motive could the Board (who voted to support his consideration) have in putting such a large group in charge of overseeing the spending of 269 million dollars?

Apparently, as they so often do, the Board relinquished yet another of their powers to the Superintendent’s hand picked gang.

When the Watchdog$ suggested an oversight committee was in order, no one bothered to ask us what we had in mind.  We had studied the bond initiative process followed by Round Rock ISD which also had an openly formulated Bond Committee, an itemized (in the true not manipulated sense of that word) bond initiative, and had established a bond oversight committee which was small enough and peopled with enough responsible citizens to perform such a duty.

By law the KISD administration must follow an approved Board motion which was set by the Board’s vote on Mr. Duhon’s motion.  The Administration cannot rescind Board motions without Board approval.  At least they’re not supposed to do that.

So who is it that’s going to be “watching and overseeing and reviewing” how our tax dollars are spent?  Take a look.  These are the members of the Bond Review Committee as established by the School Board at the September Regular Board Meeting:
